If you want to put a 4-speed Jeep auto behind your AMC, John Donato is the guy to tell you how to do it. He's done more than the electronic trans conversions for guys.  He's even built a 4-speed auto for behind a built 390 V8.

The AW4 can be hooked up with ALL the Jeep electronics and a custom TPS for a carbed vehicle, to retain the fully automatic shift points ... it's been done before.  Rick Jones has his 304-powered 69 Javelin set up with the AW4 this way ... and ... it's absolutely AWESOME to drive it.  I think Rick did a write up on this on www.theamcforum.com at one point.

That is the only AMC belled TF 4 speed auto,. but there is always the AW4. If can be more or less "de-electronified" easily, but you'll end up with a manual shift auto (similar to a manual shift valve body trans). If you have a center armrest and console it works great, anything else is a bit inconvenient.

the only 4sp tf with an amc
bell afaik is the 42re and i'd understood it was difficult/impossible
to de-electronify the o/d on them.  good to know that's wrong!
