my brother and i were just talking about this; my dad had saabs and we
both learned to drive on them.  that was back in the days when gaston
andrey of boston was the only dealer in the western hemisphere, and
you flashed your lights when you saw another saab...

they were already pretty much gone under gm; present cars are based on
the gm epsilon platform and '09 was the last year for saab's own
engine anyways, so about the only thing left of saab was the buildings
and workforce.  i'm not counting the 9-2 'saabaru' or the 9-7 aka
trailblazer since neither had anything to do with sweden.

it would've been good to watch them come back under either koenigsegg
or spyker though.  it was good at least not to see the factory sold to
beijing auto and moved to china; that would've put cash in gm's pocket
but wouldn't have helped anyone else.

trivia for those of us with xjs - saab also used the aw4 auto '97-'01.
must've been customized for their odd fwd layout.
