Subject: [AMC-list] AMC TH400 for sale

Hi,

I am cleaning up my shop for the winter and am sick of tripping over this!

I have a late 1960s TH400 (Turbo Hydramatic 400) from a Wagoneer.  This is
the round case TH400 that uses a cast iron adapter ring between engine and
transmission.

It has been converted from 4WD to a 2WD output shaft with short tail.  I
used this in my 1971 Javelin for a couple of years.  It was running when
pulled, but has been sitting for a few years.  It has surface rust on the
input shaft - but probably will clean up enough to use. I don't have the
torque converter, flex plate or adapter ring.  Just the transmission.

$50 picked up here in southern RI (zip 02874).

Thanks,
Dave B.

Note their search engine sucks.
The above link gets you to one pic. not many there.
That's the one way to get the bigger tire under the car.
Kind of hard on the 1/4 panels though...

My room mate's '68 Rebel needs an inner and outer tie rod on passenger's side with the adjuster sleeve and an idler arm. Still looking for a RH wiper blade (she hit a rock in the middle of the road because she couldn't see it with only 1 wiper. Fortunately not much damage) She bought an Anco universal arm, but it doesn't fit (adapter too small and arm hole too big) and the later model universal arms have too big of a spline too.

I was a bit puzzled why you didn't just go to a parts store for the tie rod
ends, so I thought I'd look on RockAuto... eep!

As far as I know, for the early "big" cars (63-up classic, ambo) and later
"small" cars (hornets, gremlins, etc) there were only two sets of suspension
parts, more or less. Only two lower ball joints, and two tie rod ends -- big
and small taper. I forget which is which. I'm sure there are exceptions but
very many of them are the same or directly interchangable.

Anyways, RockAuto has NONE of the early rod ends, and few (5) of the later
rod ends. The end is coming! The end is coming! I've been beginning to
stockpile replacements, and I'm going to increase this. Wear hard parts and
rubber, same as always.

I really like rockauto for their information. Photos, quantities on hand,
closeouts, often dimensions, and easy comparisons. ALso parts application
look up.

(THe sleeves are available new still.)
