Yep. 
Most Jeep wheels are about 5.75" backspacing. IIRC my fronts are 3.25". Makes a 2.5" space needed. Billet ones can be had. 
   You can also build the car for the wheels with a wider rear axle and front blocks behind the spindles. 
   Usually you will end up with a lot of effort or extra cash expended to get "lower cost" wheels.

backspacing.  all those jeeps use fwd-style deep backspacing wheels,
because of the front axle steering/drive geometry.

the eagle uses the same deep backspacing wheels, but no other amc.  i
think that unless you use massive spacers you stand to encounter lots
of suspension interference.  i know they wouldn't work on my american.
