2.86 was standard in the 63 American with 196 OHV with non-OD stick or manual trans. Straight from the 63 TSM. Too late to look through others and see when else it was used!!

ps. afaik the only 2.86 was in the amc20 axle, the amc15 would be
2.73 or 3.08.  with 2.73, 0.83 5th, and 23" tires, 60=2000rpm.
