Re: [AMC-list] Rare Rambler??

The Marlin is relatively rare even for a Rambler. Only made three years, two in that body style. 65-66 was made on the same year Classic body, 67 was made on the longer restyled Ambassador body. For both the main difference between the "parent" car and Marlin was the quarter panel and rear end treatment. From the rear edge of the door back was different, from there forward the same as the "parent". Just over 10,000 were made in 65, just over 4,500 in 66, and just over 2,500 in 67. It's an unusual body style, and those tend to survive more than the plainer cars. I think it's safe to say that no more than 20% of production (3,400) are still around somewhere, either saved as a parts car or stuck back in a garage. It's relatively popular amongst Rambler people, but we are few and far between also. Let's face it -- almost all AMCs can be considered "rare" today. You're lucky if you see one on the road any given day, I'm lucky if I see one every couple weeks, and that's usually one of the 3-4 I know about running around town. I'm not talking about at special events and car shows, though I rarely see them here in SC even at those, but mainly just in every day driving.
There are only about 3,000 AMC club members in all three AMC clubs combined, counting only once those who belong to more than one club. There are probably 1,000 real Rambler people who don't belong to any of the cubs. Then you have maybe 500 who own and like a Rambler but are really Big-3 guys, or it's just an old car they like -- no particular love of the make (or maybe I have those two numbers backwards!).

So is it rare? Yes, I think so. Extremely? Well, that's a matter of perspective and location. I bet that's the only one the seller knows of in a 100 mile radius, and just might be the only one he's ever seen. The price is right assuming it's a running car without any real issues or rust. Looks good!

The ad says it's extremely rare. Is it?
