Re: [AMC-list] Rambler acceleration

Just want to add,
Always resurface the fly wheel.
Too much time involved and Money to skip that step
I try and treat a clutch job like an auto trans over haul.
CLEAN, CLEAN and re clean! After having to replace the first one I did at the one thousand mile point. I considered it "lesson learned"!

That helps!! Sounds like the clutch is slipping. Try adjusting it first. The rod between the clutch pedal linkage and arm needs to be shortened just a little, about 1/4" at the most. If that helps, it was adjusted too tight. You will have to push the pedal a little further in to disengage the clutch. If 1/4" is too much, lengthen it a little more. You should have at least 1/2" of pedal travel before the clutch starts to disengage.

Unfortunately, I doubt that's the problem unless someone recently adjusted the clutch. Does the engine use or leak oil? If you get any oil dripping from the clutch cover or rear of the engine you probably have a leaking rear seal that is getting oil on the clutch and causing it to slip.

The clutch disk could just be worn down, or the pressure plate springs weak. If the linkage is good and you aren't leaking or using any (or much) oil, then it may just be time for a new clutch and pressure plate. Best to have the flywheel resurfaced too, especially if it has any grooves or feels rough.

Sorry I should have mentioned it on the first email. It is a manual
trany and it seems to rev pretty high. When it gets upto speed it goes
fine.
