A: Actually, I believe he meant the torque converters weren't interchangeable between the 999 and 727. I know the 998 and 904 are not compatible with the 727, but the 999 I had in my '83 Cherokee was a larger necked converter. There was also a bolt pattern difference (large and small) between the converter and flexplate. Message-ID: <4AC4B7EF.7020608@xxxxxxx> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Jim is referring specifically to the AMC V-8s, which have a different balance weight on the flexplate dependent on engine size (externally balanced). Doesn't apply to the sixes, which are internally balanced. So you're just fine!! -------- Date: Wed, 30 Sep 2009 20:18:50 -0700 From: Lynn Howell <lynnhowlyn@xxxxxxx> "From: Jim Shadwick <idahoamx@xxxxxxxxx> The flex plate is the same....engine specific(ie; 304,360/401 etc).....the converters are different and will not interchange" Just to be clear - are we saying that if flex plates are "engine specific" - that the 4.0 flex plate I have on the back end of my 258 in front of the 32RH trans (aka TF 999) shouldn't work? 'Cause it seems to be working pretty well. And yes - I know the 32RH is a lockup trans whereas "most" TF999's aren't and I am using the appropriate lockup converter. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail® has ever-growing storage!
