Subject: Re: [AMC-list] HATE the new delivery on the AMC-list Can it be fixed?

No, I'm sure you're not JUST an idiot, I'm sure there are things that can be added to the list... ;>

There is a setting that didn't get set right for some people. Most I checked have the "plain" box checked, but a few didn't. I just fixed yours. Easy to miss... so you're no idiot for missing it! I'm not sure users have ready access to it. If you know of anyone still having problems let me know and I'll fix it.

I'm probably JUST an idiot..but i can't figure out how to get the list to go back to the regular digest form it used to come in. I HATE the new "all run together" one. If it cannot be fixed.......i guess i'll have to try to figure out how to un-subscribe. thanks,Joe

Subject: Re: [AMC-list] Need exhaust manifold for 58 American

Take it to an exhaust shop and have it duplicated. They need a length of 1-7/8" pipe. I bet yours cracked at the rear exhaust port, that's the common area. They crack mostly because people leave the brace that goes from the bell housing to the pipe off. It's just a piece of 1/2" wide 1/8" thick bar bolted to one of the bell to engine bolts drilled for a u-bolt around the pipe. It supports the end of the pipe and keeps it from cracking at that weak point. You should also use a hanger right where the floor meets the firewall (the toe board) as well. There are no gaskets, just make sure the block is real clean.

It is not really a manifold, just a round pipe, one end blocked off, with
holes cut into the side and clamped to the block for the flathead 196.

Anybody know where I can get one? or should I take the one off that is
there and get one made at an exhaust shop? Are there any gaskets that go
between the engine and this pipe?

That's it! Price is $45 now, Paul Dwyer's page has been up a few years.

Oh, by the way, you shouldn't have separated the Bendix caliper halves, but they should go back together with no problems. Next time pull the two mounting bolts and lift the whole caliper up and off the rotor to remove the pads.

Is this what the tool looks like? Assuming GarryJav is Garrett Jacob?

That all makes sense to me...Looks much safer than the one I used on my
Grand Cherokee to add aftermarket springs.

Subject: [AMC-list] CHANGES TO LIST DIGEST FOR A FEW MEMBERS!!

If you e-mail address starts with a number or the letter "A" and you get
the digest, I just changed your settings to "plain". That will fix the
run-on messages some have been getting. If you notice a change in the
digest and don't like it, let me know (send me an e-mail -- farna AT
att.net) and I'll change you back. Next week I'll change one or two
more. If I don't get any requests to change it back after that, I'll go
through the whole list and change all digest users to plain. It's just a
setting that didn't get set when we switched over.

$35/set!?!?!?! That's a GIFT! Yeah, that's the right tool for the job!

The "big car" springs I'm reasonably OK with chain-and-hook compressors,
compressed just enough to get in and out of there car there's no threat of
them popping out sideways (they still scare sh*t out of me).

But the tall skinny american springs, look like ballpoint pen springs if
ball point pen springs could SNAP YOUR JAW OFF, there is NO WAY I would do
those again without the side cage.

Gotta check overall length for the early american (vs 64-up) but that tool
is a damn bargain.

OK, that's better. I'm a cheapskate and all but $35 was too low. $45 is
still a fantastic bargain. It's not a complicated tool but his looks done
right and well and he's an asset to the hobby.
