Re: [AMC-list] 71 AMX fuel system question

I think the way this is meant to work is that it's supposed to allow vapors to travel up the line to a vapor canister, but will block liquid fuel from running forward and flooding said canister. This could happen from a roll-over, but also could be the case after a fill-up, or with fuel expansion in a full tank on a hot day.

Isn't this an early stab at vapor containment (as a federal emissions requirement)?

My '71 has the valve and lines; the line runs up to the firewall, and terminates there (somewhere behind the driver side at about the carburetor level; directly behind where the throttle linkage is). If there was a vapor canister there, it's long gone, and I have no idea where it's supposed to go.

I have mine capped at the firewall, but I think it acts as a vent also, so it's not ideal. Have read where some say that, if you have no canister, it could be run to the bottom of the air filter so that accumulated vapors will be drawn down the intake and burned. Not sure I'm totally comfortable with that though.
