Just in case you don't know what Andrew means, the 70 Gremlin and Hornet came with a T-96J. Would surely want to replace that with something a bit more robust and easier to shift! 

I bet a lot of people thought the whole car was a joke when it came out, especially since it came out on April Fool's day! The joke was on them -- AMC sold more Gremlins than anything else over the seven year run!
