Re: [Amc-list] OT: Booby traps and respect for other's propery

It is my opinion that anyone entering my home or property (I
unfortunately haven't a shop or garage yet) intends to steal from, or
harm, my family or me. That said, my intent is to "shoot first, ask
questions later". My wife and I have worked too hard to have what we do
and make a good life for ourselves and our children. My wife's parents
helped her with paying for college, but after that, she was financially
on her own. Mine couldn't, so after high school, I was on my own (sort
of, I lived with one of my grandmothers until I married, but you get the
point). I live in a suburban area, but unlike when I was young, we
never leave our home, vehicles, or even storage shed unlocked.

I suspect that I am probably a little older than some, but younger
than most, list members judging by reading posts for some time now.
However, it seems to me that our society has become so litigious as to
remove any remnants of common sense. Take for example tires. When I
bought tires for my Eagle, I brought in the alloy wheels (from a
Cherokee/Grand Cherokee that I still have with the tires if anyone is
interested :-) ) and stated what size tires I wanted. Easy. I went to
get snow tires for my company van, and since the leasing company was so
afraid of being sued should something happen if tires other than what
was listed as appropriate my the manufacturer be installed, it took
virtually an act of God to get snow tires. The stock size is a very
unpopular 225/65-16 and the snows I eventually got installed are
235/60-16... 13/32" smaller in diameter and approximately 25/64" wider.
Sheesh.

Unfortunately, booby traps are illegal in all states that I know of and could land you getting sued by a criminal, and the criminal winning! I know, it's BS... like when a kid walks over, jumps on my bike (motorcycle) parked in my driveway, knocks it over and breaks his leg in the process. I can get sued because the bike is an "attraction", and can't sue the kids parents to get my bike fixed (if there was any damage). My parents would have never considered suing over anything like that if I'd done it "back in the day", but I wouldn't have been able to sit for a couple hours after! Well, not if I had a broke leg, but scrapes/scratches/bruises and I'd have caught it! I'd have got quite a lecture about respecting other people's property even with a broke leg, and would have been p

I keep telling him, he can be his kids buddy, but dad has to come FIRST! Once the kid (4 year old boy) realizes that and learns the boundary, he'll be fine and dad will be more respected.

I had this stop a low life that was ripping off the neighborhood some years ago. When I got home and found my door open, the board monkeyed with and a trail of blood leading to the street, I called the cops. I told them someone broke in and stepped on a nail. I advised them to check the hospital.

I haven't gotten ripped off in years because people know I have several booby traps set at my place and I will shoot anyone who survives them.....Russ
