Sorry to warn you too many times, don't mean to nag.

I will get a pic of the jig I made for the bottom of my press. 
It only took an hour max to make and takes the worry out of the bottom sliding around.

I just cut  a couple of rails of  3/4" angle to lay on the press rails lip down on the outside and a square box of the angle facing lip up the same size as the spring seat on the American.  Welded it all together. It's so simple and the way it is laid out it could be bolted together if needed.

Just that simple jig makes it much easier. I really need to find a longer rammed bottle jack for the press before I do any American springs again. Those things have a LOOOONNNNNNNGGG released length!
