yeah, combs are somewhat ok on condensors, heater cores etc with long fins.
As you said the zigzags on the old fashoined copper rads kind of don't lend themselves to the combs as you can't get the comb started to seperate the fins. Your pretty much stuck with little screwdrivers and or needlenose pliers and lots of patience.
