Yes, Independents tried compacts and failed at it - except for AMC
with the Rambler. But the Big Three all had decent compacts in the
early 60's - and they all gave way to bloat and low consumer demand.>

Speaking of Metropolitans, the Feb. 2009 issue of Hemmings Classic Car
does a 6-page story on them.
