Re: [Amc-list] Eagle's night out (was depressing: Yahoo! News Story - Administration unwilling to see auto industry bailout)

Bart mentioned on the badassgremlin yahoo group about auto bailout mess/illinois gove, ect, ect,
No offence, but the doom and gloom is getting old on here. lets steer it back to AMC's as its been non stop depression on here.

Here is something to change subject. Last night Paige, my wife, her oilfield company had their annual Christmas party. Since she had been picking up some spare shifts making gift baskets (and I didn't know she that talented, but she even made one for Roger Clemens) but she worked during day at he HEB Central Market, then would be drivingher 88 Eagle to the restaurant off Bissonett about 8 miles away to the Christmas party. She would then call me, I would take Noah & Jacob across street to the neighbor lady who would watch them for a couple hours, then I would head off to meet Paige about 18 miles away at same resturant in my 82 Eagle. I have a TomTom in it and quite a neat gadget, and shows you shortest route, and even asked me if I wanted to take toll roads.

After putting in some $1.27 a gallon gas (figured that would get your asses attention, gas wasn't even $1.27 a gallon when my Eagle's were NEW) I headed down the tollway. The British sounding girl in the Tomtom kept me company, and for a moment thought about asking her to do something not car related. But I drove down Beltway 8 to Westpark Tollroad, which is this real German Autobahn looking thing with lanes going east west on either side and strange looking street lights so quite exotic to old Eagle. Turning off on Hillcroft it appears you have entered Mumbai, as it is big Indian/Pakistan area and most of the signs, neons, shoping centers are written in Klingon or whatever language it is, I can't read it but you are in another world there It's been about 15 years since I have driven near Hillcroft & Hiway 59...AT NIGHT so takes on a totally different look during day, not that anyone can read the signs then either. As I drove under 59 carefully watching the traffic, out of c
orner of my eye it looked like a AMX. No, but it was a really nice looking yellow Torino, I think abot 72 or 73 with the fastback look that sort of looks like a 68-70 AMX only fatter. Nice car, and headed south on 59.

The GPS told me to turn on Belliare at Hillcroft. This is a great place to get a few caps in your ass in Houston day or night. Even worse, she then told me to turn right onto Renwick to go to Bissonett. Limie sounding bitch! It is not like SHE has ever been on Renwick on Saturday night, who programs these things I would rather drive to Beaumont, Texas and turn around 120 miles away than go thru this area at night. There are places...just like in most cities....where you don't venture at night that is unless you want to get crack rock by dealers who come up to you at stop light.....on bicycles...or where people get murdered for their rims. Lucky for me no one can see in my limo tinted Eagle's glass, and even then, the squeaking of the front suspension can drown out most ipods and they don't know what kind of car it is to begin with and it has hubcaps so appears I am save. If not then I have hallow points in my friend on passenger seat. In the first of many apartments there, I
think this first one is nicely named 'Gang Gardens' (or Cholo Manor, cholo is slang for halfbreed) the first driveway already had 4 Houston Police cars in it! Yow, barely 7:15pm and long night for those guys working this area. I'll have to watch the Sunday morning news to go thru the first dozen murders to see is any on Renwick though.

At the restaurant, I parked my Eagle next to Paige's Eagle. Not in front, that reserved for cars people would probably steal. I left my windows open although after hearing the clueless GPS UK girl tell me 'you have reached your destination' 4 times, decided she should go under the seat. The small Italian restaurant was rather nice and comfy, and I had to wear shoes. My chair was right next to company president, who is a nice guy from up in Dallas, so I guess he makes maybe 5 things I can think good that come out of Dallas like I-45 and Yeuga Beer. He is a car guy so we talked cars, and of course oil, as his company makes pumps and gromments and what not for oilfield companies. The food was good and there was a old man and lady playing songs up near front door, a keyboard and flute, they sounded really good but music sort of sounded Greek in Italian place, I think those two countries are connected anyhows so didn't matter.

After dinner everyone said goodbye and some of the people asked me 'which car I drove' as some of them wanted to see the 68 Rebel convertible 'Machine' and while it was nice night, about 65 degrees, there was no way I was going to drive it into that area on a Saturday night. So Paige got into her Eagle, I got into mine and we were off. I brought the fish & chips UK lady inside the GPS out from under the seat and plugged here in for home. She is not the smartest stack of wood in pile and wanted me to take the tollroads back home, and gets gruff when I deviate from 'her' course. There was ten satellites coordinating my route home, so I think she quickly figured out I wanted to go down 59 past the carnivals and their lights, that is not depressing, sort of cheerful looking at the rides and the lights on them. Not cheerful though would be actually stopping at one and paying felons $40 to win a stuffed bear that 1 9 year old made in forced labor (labour if Canadian) in China that
you could have bought at flez market for $4.00. But still fun to look at the spinning and flashing lights and nice weather in Houston this Saturday night for people to get out and enjoy.

As I followed her down Hillcroft, then 59 South to the Sam Houston Tollway/Beltway 8 home I thought what are the odds that anywhere in north America you have two American Motors vehicles following each other home? Surely not in Houston, Texas, 4th largest city in US. Maybe there is/was a cruise night car show event somewhere in US in a smaller town or city a husband and wife were following each other home in Javelin and Concord or something. That would be neat. As long as they didn't have to go down Renwick street though. But following a AMC in traffic, while driving another AMC....20 years after AMC ceased to exist, was quite nice and figued would share it.

We got home, the GPS British sounding lady told me I had reached my destination again, for a moment I thought about circling block to freak her Beefeater Gin drunk smug sound out, but had to pick up the kids, of which they were both tired. Maybe one day someone will invent a GPS with cuss words. Ya'll have a good weekend,
Eddie Stakes
