it does indeed depend on your rims, and radials like wider rims than
bias-ply tires did. yours may be 5.5"; i don't know about that valve
stem area marking but you'll usually find the size stamped in the rim
valley between the beads inside the tire - something like 5.5jj14. i
think you'd have either 5" or 5.5" rims.
the widest plain-steel 14" rims you can get - without going to stockton
wheel or some other custom-wheel shop - is 6". hornet/concord 14x6"
rims will fit and most of them will take rambler dog-dish hubcaps; i
have a set on my american. they might've run something as large as
215/75 but for sure 205/75s will fit.
if you were willing to step up a size, mopar 15x7" steels are pretty
common and vans came with no-name dog dish caps. they'd be good with
215/65r15s, which exactly match the rolling diameter of 205/75r14s.
" I am planning on buying new tires and want the largest size. Also is it
" better to install black walls or the 1" white walls?
no difference.
