It sounds like you need to assume it is all wrong (except for the stuff you've already tested). You still need to go through the diagnostic flowchart (you'll only get that from a factory manual) before you write the ECM off. It is possible to have a bad sensor circuit fry the ECM. The only way to find that is to go through the diagnostic flowchart. You shouldn't need anything more that a good multi-meter and a boatload of time to do this. Once everything else checks out, it would be time to replace the ECM. I just looked up your truck on http://www.chryslerpartsdirect.com and they want $911.25 for the ECM so if it went bad before, there's a good chance you have a used or rebuilt on in it now. Advance's web site lists the ECM you have below (Neihoff # ECC2158MU, $235.99). Transmission wise, a 42RE was used on V6's. I don't know how you identify them but a factory manual will likely show that. This is a computer controlled transmission so if the wrong one is in the truck now, it may contribute to problems.
