Valve covers can be changed. Get the number off the block. The build date for the car should be on the underhood tag on the fenderwell? I forget what year they changed to the dash pad numbers.

What are the codes for a 1970 360 in a Javelin.
 
You know the one that's located on the valve cover tag. 
 
I need a refresher course on AMC identification of numbers.
