Re: [Amc-list] sx4 issues to check while buying

Not likely to have the Audi motor as apparently even AMC only used them '77 to '79. (Porsche fixed the headgasket and cracking head issues with them when they made the motor turbo and EFI)

Early ones have the GM Dookie which may have a SBC bell, or may have the 60 degree pattern of the 2.8 V6 (and '83 up AMC 2.54L)

I have decided the Ice Cream truck I bought won't convert too easily to 4x4 as I had hoped (clearance of the front axle from the crossbar and oil pan is a problem)

The '79 DJ will be back up for sale once I finish fixing the brakes enough for it to stop (should get $800 for it anyways)

Just to show how little I know about them....

If it is the 4cyl, is it the audi/porche one that has been discussed here, or the iron duke, or what? I thought the duke was at least an adequate engine.

(YA....make sure it has the 258 .. the 4cly is a real pain to work on.....Jim)
