There are some minor differences, but it's pretty much the same engine. Everything will bolt right up. Oil to the head and filter are on the same line instead of separate ones, and the cam bearing journals are slightly smaller. The oil tube routing isn't a problem, just a mod to limit oil sent up to the head at high speeds. Unless you plan on lots of interstate cruising it's not a problem though. The cam bearing size changed sometime in 61, just remember you have a 59 engine in there if you ever go to rebuild it or replace the cam and you're all set. The pistons are slightly different -- different size rings. All replacement pistons are the later model though. As long as you have the correct rings for the pistons it's not a problem. Every other internal part interchanges. ------------ Date: Sun, 20 Jul 2008 16:36:47 -0700 (PDT) From: d stohler <das24rules@xxxxxxxxx> well, i think im going to just find me an engine to swap. pulled the oil pan the other night. everything looks pretty clean. it has 2 newer looking rods in it. odd... the bearings look pretty dam wore. i forgot how many miles were on the car. it has 97,xxx. i know where there is like a 59 or so classic cross country. has ohv with man/od. will have to change out the crank. pressure wash it real good, paint it rering it and new bottom bearings. that should be the same motor as the 63 american shouldnt it? -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
