[Amc-list] transmission type question

My 71 AMC javelin came with a 304 and an auto tranny with floor shift. I have tried to get the AMC transmission pan gasket and it does not fit. I don't know what to look for or where to look to see what type of transmission is in the car. I know some had been swithced over to a 904. Can anyone tell me where to look to see if this is a 904 instead of an AMC tranny? The pan is pretty big and has one corner slanted.
