Re: [Amc-list] E85 carbureted conversions ???

There was some talk about this on the Jeep Strokers list a while back. Running 11:1 with E-85 would give back the power loss and improve fuel mileage a bit, about like running an 8.5:1 gasoline engine. The only real problem is if you convert a carb engine you're stuck with running E-85 only. If it's something you just drive around the local area, and there's plenty of E-85, you're fine. Don't plan on taking it on any cross country jaunts though, not without knowing for sure what stations have it and their hours. Sort of like Tom J and his LPG powered Rambler.

Running 10:1 is going to require premium fuel unless you have a high overlap cam that bleeds off a bit of cylinder pressure. If you can built it at 9:1 you can tune to run regular unleaded.

Good afternoon all,
Has anyone out there converted from gas to E85 yet? While I?m in the process of the 304 V8 stroker build-up, I can run two head options for roughly either 10:1 or 11:1 compression on the engine. I?d run pump gas on the 10:1 and could run E85 on the 11:1 motor (10:1 could also run E-85, if wanted). I realize that higher compression is best-suited for E85, to benefit from it.
