Rambler takes the Ridler

This Ridler-winning, Ferrari-powered Rambler wagon was build by Divers

So what would it take for a Rambler to win the Ridler?

Before this past weekend, such a question would have elicited guffaws
and goofball responses among groups of hot rod-minded bench racers.
Everybody knows the Ridler award goes to a street rod that some big-name
shop has thrown a lot of money, craftsmanship and fabrication behind
that debuts at the Detroit Autorama. No Rambler has ever won a major
street rod award, and, besides, nobody throws a lot of money at a
Rambler, right? But somebody did put a lot of effort into a Rambler, and
we now know what it takes for one to win the Ridler.

A Ferrari V-8. Mounted in a mid-engine configuration.

That somebody was Mike Warn of Wilsonville, Oregon, whose 1960 Rambler
American station wagon ? dubbed Ferrambo ? left Detroit this past
weekend with the Don Ridler Memorial Award. Warn took the Rambler to Tim
Diver at Divers Street Rods www.diversstreetrods.com in Sultan,
Washington, where Diver combined the shell of the body with an Art
Morrison chassis and the 405hp, 3.6-liter V-8 and six-speed transaxle
from a wrecked 2002 Ferrari 360 Modena, installed in the Rambler?s rear
passenger and cargo section. Diver then installed driving lights and a
grille that mimicked the Ferrari?s and painted the whole works Ferrari
Red before mounting 18-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels and tires.
