Re: [Amc-list] While we are talking starters - 88 GW Starter is wrong for your 390

Hi Ron,
I'm dealing with this right now on my 1989 Grand Wagoneer. Mopar switched to a different Mitsubishi style starter in 1988, when they bought AMC/Jeep. The entire flexplate, starter and Torque converter on my 1989 is 1988-91 GW specific.

You'll need to get a different starter. Here's a link to one that might work on you 390 4-speed. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=006&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=160211804805&rd=1 .... FEEDBACK, anyone?

I bought an 88 GW gear starter brand new for dirt cheap. I want to use it on a
390 4sp car but the nose holds it too far away to engage, any ideas anyone?
