Re: [Amc-list] Amc-list Digest, Tom's tail light gaskets

On my pacer front and rear parking lamp lens, the Phillips head screws rust and the head wear so its almost impossible to get them out with out cracking the lens and using a drill or needle nose pliers to get out the screw. The gasket are usually there but worn or perforated,?so my trick has been to apply silicone spray to the remaining ?gasket material, and with a small artist brush,? I brush ?on the clear silicone gasket material /sealer and lightly coat the gasket and the grooves made from the lens, keeping the same proportion, basically building it up?a bit, so that once dry, I let it sit a day or so, the lens will still fit into the channel. before replacing the lens, a little silicone spay on the lens?edge?or the new ?gasket? will keep the lens from sticking. I also coat the new bulb and socket with light bulb grease or better the clear silicone dielectric grease. I get new?small stainless steel allen head screws? that fit the lens holes instead of the philips. I apply
the dielectric grease to the screw thread?or the threads in the lens housing hole before replacing it. The? allen screw makes it easier to tighten and loosen when needed. And does not rust or distort. Just don't over tighten, worked? well on my pacers.
Regards. Ken.

That is a great trick! I will use it. For what it is worth, I have 1 set of
good tail light lenses on my car, and 3 sets in various states of cracked or
broken, that I will probably fix up, just for good measure. Now, I can make new
gaskets too. I had been trying to think of what I should use. That reminds me,
should the gap go at the top or the bottom of the tail light lense, or is it
supposed to be sealed off with a gasket?

Joe
