back when i had my '67 marlin, i was once pulled over on the highway
at 3 am one saturday, coming out of my volunteer job at wgbh in boston.
i'd probably been speeding; the dash lights had just burned out and i
couldn't see the speedo.  nevertheless, the first thing he said was
'i'm not going to write you a ticket'...  he just wanted to look at
the car.
