[Amc-list] 1967 Rebel column shift lever removal

Can anyone tell me the proper way to remove my 3 speed shift lever.  I bought 
a shift lever from Ebay and it came with a roll pin.  The plastic handle 
broke off years ago.  I imagine I drive the pin out but want to know if there is a 
special gear the lever should be in or is there any special precautions.  Any 
photo or picture would be helpful.
