[Amc-list] All that whining about brakes helped me out, lol

My middle son has a project car that we started on a long time ago. We got his engine running. A friend rebuilt the carb, we replaced the gas tank and sending unit, replaced all rubber lines, replaced the alternator, battery, tires, ... He hasn't been able to drive it as the brakes grab (and now we need to replace the fuel pump, and the o-ring where the speedometer cable attaches to his TH350 automatic transmission is leaking).

I had some time off on Tuesday, so thought I'd work on my Rambler American. Get the front brakes out of the way. Well, got a slow start - had coffee, lazed about. Then wandered to the garage. My son's car was up on the stands! The left rear drum was off, and he was peering at the brakes. He had watched when a friend and I worked on mine, so decided to jump in priority.

Well, I found out drum brakes are pretty darn similar, lol. And I really like the snazzy hold down springs with clip and nail (or whatever it's called). That was pretty straight-forward! Got the left rear brake done. I need to replace a section of brake line (will probably look for pre-made section as I haven't worked with a flaring tool yet). Gotta get the other side, then I can snag my stands back again and work on my own car. Anyway - the Wagner drums from Mustang II's are pretty similar. I've got no idea about the disk brakes on 'em, but we'll hit that soon.

I shouldn't have told him we're in a race to get 'em on the road! My wife is pretty even-keeled on the projects. We've got my Rambler American 4 door sedan next to my kids kit car (looks like an Austin Healey, has a Chevy 350 and Mustang II suspension). Hopefully we'll get one (or both) running.

I also gotta work on better light out there. Can't see a thing at night, even with one shop light. Work would go much quicker if I could, like, see and stuff like that.
