Only try it if you want cracked pistons! I don't think you could get the cast iron bore hot enough to do any damage, as long as it's not a CUTTING torch! I don't see how the whole process helps much -- the pistons are usually stuck because the cast iron rings rust to the bore. It doesn't take much rust to stick them, just surface rust between the rings and bore will do it.

One fellow told how he freed up some stuck pistons. With the crank out and the
engine upside down, he heated the pistons with a torch and then tossed cold
water on the back side of the pistons to shrink them and then pounded them out. 

Don't know if I want to try that - sounds hard on the pistons and cylinders.
