Re: [Amc-list] Thanks for the brake shoe info, ...

Bruce,
If you were close to me I could help you out. It's really not as tough as it may seem but when you look at all the parts it can be intimidating if it is something new to you. A few years back I had to do some brake work on my 66 American Wagon. Over the course of about 8 months I ended up with all new drums, wheel cylinders, shoes, hold down kits, spring kits and master cylinder.

What really made this project fun is I could not find an exact replacement M/C. With a little research the parts house was able to cross reference one for it (cost about $18). It no longer had the hole in the bottom for the brake light pressure switch and the line ports were larger so I ended up using some kind of adapters and put a T in one of the lines right next to the M/C to install the pressure switch. Oh, and I also had to replace the parking brake cable. Mine was broken and I didn't have the money to buy a new one (at that time the cheapest was $70) so I went to Pull and Save and found one on another car that was similar. The end the connects to the brake handle, rather than being a ball like my cable, had a small cylinder. I ground that cylinder into a ball and it worked great.
Everything was still working great when I parked it but, unfortunately, the exhaust system was falling apart and it was having other issues.

I think I better watch it done or do it under supervision once.
