Tom,
 I fear that the problem is that the 63 American is the end of a line, the 63 Classic is the beginning.
I think perhaps you need to grit yer teeth and just take that American wheel off and make it fit!
Drive the Hornet or Classic for a day or two, honest, it won't be so bad :]
Use the time to hang some fer sale signs in the Hornet and advertise it!
Think of all the funky green stuff you can buy for the American with the money!!!
