I suggest that you take the gentleman and the check
with you to your bank when you do the deal on the car.
Ask the bank to verify that the check will clear
before signing over the title to the gentleman.  You
can probably confirm with your bank whether this is
the proper procedure before the gentleman arrives to
pick up the car.
