I was thinking they were 5" or 5.5" wheels. Maybe the optional oversize tire used a 5" wheel? Anyway, I ran 7" American Racing cast aluminum slot "mags" on mine. Wasn't much room between spring and sidewall of tire, 1/4"-1/2". 8" wheels won't fit. Standard back spacing on AR wheels is 3-3/4" now, but it used to be something like 3-1/4" or 3-1/2". I don't recall using spacers, but I did have disc brakes, which increase track 3/8"-1/2" on each side. My wheels looked like AR Ansen Sprints, but a little deeper.

Sounds like a 6" would be best, and would work great with a 195 tire. Torque Thrust II comes in 15x6 w/3" backset and would look good on the car. ;>

Stockton wheel wants (reasonably I think) $55/wheel to media blast and true 
the 15" American wheels. Plus shipping, two ways.

Wheel Vintiques wants $52 each for new wheels, and they're smoothies (plain 
steel but without the little window that's hard to wash). 15 x 6. Backspacing 
is 3-5/8".  12-5612358 SMOOTHIE (BARE) 

I just measured the American wheel -- at the rim, as best I can tell with the 
tire on, the width is 4.5"! Four (4) point five. Inches. It's definitely 
under 5" on the rim portion outside to outside. Backspacing is 3-1/8".

I gotta gamble that there's enough room to clear the spring. Frank, what was 
the widest wheel you reliably remember putting on the front of one of these 
cars?
