[Amc-list] Re; Help! I need suggestions on my 86 Eagle

Now, as of tonight, I can hit even the slightest bump or apply
the brakes and ALL lights (headlights, dash lights) shut down
(I don't even have turn signals, hazards, radio, or clock), the
temp gauge spikes and fuel gauge drops to empty. Everything kind
of flickers if I hit another slight bump and when I hit the gas
everything comes back (and the chime and the seatbelt light
come on as if you just turned on the ignition). I have shoved my
head under the dash but can not find anything obvious. Any
suggestions on what to check?

Many of the things that you are commenting on as being problem prone is
wiring that goes through the steering column. The connection is located just
about above the area where your foot would be on the brakes etc. A set of
boots in the winter and a snowy day could lead to kicking up in there when
reaching for pedals. The connector is a GM unit so even if there is a
problem, parts are available. I would be tempted to poke about up in there
and remove and reseat the connectors (there are two of them, the one with
the bunch of little bitty wires is the signal lines going through the
turnsignals etc. and possible coat them with dielectric grease before
putting things back together but spring tension for the pedals, years of
pushing them and assorted other things may have loosened or knocked loose
things a bit. As far as the newer fuse panel, I never had a problem with
them for what that is worth.
Check the ground connection under the hood just to the passenger side of the
drivers side windshield wiper location adjacent to where the wire loom that
goes across the cowl. That is where the dashboard ground is made to the
body.
