Re: [Amc-list] 1960 rambler custom/ 63 770 (parts interchangeability)

For all practical purposes nothing will interchange between a 60 and 63. There are a few small items, but nothing major. In general, 58-62 big Ramblers have great parts interchangeability, and 63-66 Ramblers. The 63 body was a big change, and the 67 a big change also. The only thing that will interchange between a 60 and a 63 is the engine itself, and most of the transmission. The 63-66 uses a totally different torque tube connection to the transmission. You should be able to change the tailshaft housing and convert a trans from early to late torque tube, but I'm not 100% certain the output shaft lengths are the same. They most likely are, and I do know the splines are the same so yokes interchange (on the torque tube).

58-63 Americans interchange all glass and mechanical parts (except for rear side and back glass on the 63 only hardtop), but the firewall, dash, and all outer body parts changed in 1961. 58-60 body panels and 61-63 body panels all interchange. For the most part 64-69 American/Rogue/Rambler parts interchange, but the rear quarter body lines changed in 66 along with the front clip -- it was extended to make room for an AC condenser in front of the radiator. So 64-65 body parts interchange, and 66-69. There are some caveats -- mounting holes moved, brackets changed, etc., but it's not hard to put a 69 front clip on a 66. It just may not be a direct bolt-on proposition. Matt Haas has most of the subtle differences on his site (www.mattsoldcars.com) and/or the AMCyclopedia site (www.amcyclopedia.org).

How many parts will interchange with these cars. i put in an offer for $100
on the 1960 rambler custom. I figure for $100 i might get something out of
it.

If i do get the car i will definatly part out to anyone on the list.
