I trusted that the engine that I used had been well cared for and invested the money in a factory rebuilt carburetor and it seemed to have paid off. The above results are after a first test where the car failed because the EGR valve was wrong. I had enlisted the help of a very knowledgeable list member to help me spec out the EGR valve (Thanks John, I mean it.) but we were both wrong about the type of valve that was required. Also the bypass valve for the air pump was defective and I replaced it with a functional valve from a Pacer in my garage. It just shows that even 1970s cars can perform well on emissions tests if they are set up correctly. You do not have to disable the primitive emissions control devices installed by the factory.
