There ARE experts who know these restoration details. 
Unfortunately none of them contribute to the AMC-list.
 Tom Benvie was (is) one such expert.  There was a guy
on the old AMC forum who compiled a lot of this
information too.  Tom B. had posted an excellent
series of articles on one of the old AMC forums
regarding the restoration of a white 68 or 68 AMX with
all the little changes which occurred over the months
of production.

You might try accessing the new amc forum and see what
resources you can tap in to.  There was a post just
yesterday or the day before by Steve Kirkwood about
the new replacement AMC forum.
