Re: [Amc-list] Re; 'Flexible Flyers' - Radial Tires. and shot springs

John,

Yes my 70 Javelin does sit nose high. I think it's because it has an
attitude and thinks it's better than a chebby or a furd.
No not really it's because everything is stock. Eventually I'm going to have
a pair of those nifty lowering plates made for the front so I won't loose
any suspension travel. I want the car to sit as low as possible all the way
around. That's my road racing influence. Dropped cars are cool to me.

Armand,

Snip
A further note here, I can't believe my springs in front are shot.
John can you help with this one??

Yah, I can, but there may be a folk or two that don't like my answer.
I have yet to see a good reason why I have to purchase a front spring
for an AMC car. This of course is limited to 1970 + as I have never
owned one older than 1970. My Javelin rear springs died due to excessive
exposure to rust and I replaced them with a good used set when that
happened. Kennedy American sells a replacement bolt for the front of
rear leafs in lieu of the shoulder bolt which is no longer available
and I use a saws all to cut the bolt out by sliding the blade up next
to the spring. Rust is insidious.

The only thing that I have addressed and then only as a personal
preference and that is that annoying nose high attitude that prevails
on all AMC cars that I have ever been involved with or seen and that
is to take my SawsAll and cut off between ½ and 1 full turn off of
the bottom of the front coil spring to drop the nose out of the sky
and get it to sit level with the rear or 'cause I like the look
better, a bit lower.
I figure 3 inch drop/turn and adjust accordingly to personal preference.

Raising a car makes no logical sense to me at all.

If the front spring is shot, and it can happen it would be rather
rare in my opinion.
For what ever that is worth.
John.
