Re: [Amc-list] Jeep Clutch Hydraulics

A: Last time I looked, there was a bleeder on those slaves. Yours is an
external though? Probably the same as the Ford units that ship complete with
a master cyl and aren't serviceable. I wonder if the earlier XJ units would
work? (4 cyl '84 to @88 was external slave) The other possibility is like my
'87 MJ, the pilot bearing is seizing to the trans input shaft. (Still
haven't got around to fixing it, but I don't sit at lights with my foot on
the clutch anymore as it can suddenly engage and pull forward!)

Our 97 XJ Cherokee Sport is suffering from not completly
dissengaging it's clutch.
I was under it today and could not see a means of bleeding the
system. I didn't have it jacked up or anything, so Maybe I
missed it.
Anyway, When we bought it I found a bunch of moisture "clots"
floating in the reservoir and cleaned it out with a syringe and
paper towells. It worked fine till recently when I noticed it
would not fully dissengage. I figure it just needs bled.
We're still driving it, but I'd like to get it fixed ASAP. I
don't mind buying new parts as these appear to be original. 10
years is nothing to compalin about.
I apologize for this Off topic question, but I need to figure
this out before it gets worse or fails.
Still more Off-topic, The Jeep is much nicer for me to drive now
that I took the time to refit the seat. I drilled new mounting
holes to move the seat bottom back on the tracks! I had to do
some welding on one side to build a pocket. The other side was a
simple redrill 1" forward to move the seat back. I was afraid it
wouldn't be noticeable, but 1" was just enough to get my knee
bone below the door pull! I had it apart as the seat frame on
the bottom was totally fragged! It fell apart when I unbolted
it! My wife said she didn't notice anything wrong with it, but
one good jolt and she would have been in the back seat ! :]
