early '80s, i could've had a mint, pristine powder-blue '67 american
for $50. i was in the junkyard looking for something when it came in.
the little old lady who owned it just couldn't take nickel-and-diming
the repairs... when i finally came to my senses two days later they'd
already crushed it. i was stunned.

also about that time, i passed on a $12k ferarri dino. it would've
taken just about every nickel i could've scraped together, but ten
years later they were pushing $200k.
