Even if there wasn't a single 83 in the museum, it's not like there was
really much of a break. There was an extended production run of the 82
model year. They didn't stop making them when they normally would for
retooling for the 84s. Then there was a longer than normal retooling
cycle before the 84s were introduced earlier than normal, more like an
83-1/2 intro. The sole reason was because the 84 was 100% different than
the 82 as far as the body and chassis were concerned -- actually a
totally different car. The whole assembly line had to be revamped, with
many major changes.

I don't know if that was the year or not (I think it is) but it's not 
that there weren't any of that year, it's just that there's *one* of 
that year. It's on display at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling 
Green, KY. BTW, this is a pretty cool place to visit. I stopped there 
with one of my nephews back in 2003 on the way home from Power Tour and 
we both enjoyed it.
