[Amc-list] Is this common?

Todd,

This is common if the rockers are not removed or
installed in a proper fashion. With the rotation of
the cam, if one valve is in the closed position while
the other matched bridged valve is fully open, you
need to do one of two things to keep from breaking the
bridge. Either spin the engine over until they are
both closed during the compression stroke (this is the
ideal way) or slowly back each out evenly a little bit
at a time. Fully tightening or loosening one at a
time in this scenario will put all the spring pressure
of the open valve side on the bridge at an abnormal
angle causing it to break (only cast aluminum in most
cases).

My son has started disassembling his 360. He's
removed the bolts for
several
of the rockers, and several of the bridges have
snapped. From his
description they broke while he was removing the
bolts. Is this a
common
failure point?

Todd
