also builds bones and ligaments, two things that stop when you stop
growing.
i'm not built like a footballer - unless maybe you mean soccer - but i
rode my bike to school in jr. high, 6+ miles each way, and i was in
better shape those 2 years than all the time i took phys ed. a little
over 10 years later i rode the same route a little farther to my job,
almost 10 miles on the dot, and from leaving my kitchen to stepping
into my 3rd-floor office - including 2 stoplights - i consistently
clocked 32-33 minutes. no, i wasn't racing or 'pushing'... i'm only
in fair shape now but i still have that muscle; i walk the mile-plus
cross town to my bank in under 20 minutes without even trying.

When I was about 17 my brother decided to change the front shock on
our
232 American, two door hardtop. Not knowing what he was doing he used
a
bumper jack! Took the tire off! Then proceeded to unpolt the bottom
of the
shock. The car promptly fell off the bumper jack, driving the 3/8"
ratchet
head thru his hand pinning him to the concrete driveway! I was there
by
myself not close enough to stop him before this happened. My choices
were
to leave him pinned to the dirveway while I jacked the car back up
with a
bumper jack or pick up that corner of the car. I failed on the first
try.
It told myself impossible or not I HAD to do it. On the second try I
lifted that car enough to get him free.
To this day his ring finger his curled and frozen due to this
accident
as all the bones in the finger and knuckle were crushed and fuzed
solid
when they healed.
When we returned home after taking him to the hospital I tried to
lift
that corner of the car again. No dice! My dad tried, he could not
do it
either! Keep in mind how low a 65 American bumper is to the ground
with
no wheel or tire on it! The leverage angles are way bad to even
try
this. Adrenalin is powerful Stuff!

'61 AMC Ramber wagon with the alum block 6 cyl (OH valves).
I had the starter rebuilt so it's working perfect now. However, it's
pretty noisy as it engages and turns the flywheel, and doesn't let go
soon enough when the engine starts (more noise).
FWIW, of the 2 bolts holding the starter in place, the top one is a
special "shouldered" bolt, 3/8" threads, with a larger "shoulder". The
lower bolt is a plain old 3/8" bolt.
Is there any way to adjust this starter so it will mesh better?
Do I need a similar bolt on the bottom?

A: You would want the bell from a 70 or '71 V8 automatic (I think. Someone
else will correct me if I'm wrong) and a crank adapter, OR run a 727
automatic (take the Jeep one apart and have a Mopar 727 2wd output shaft put
in) Don't know about floor clearances.

Butch, i have a 1967 Ambo auto tranny that will have
the bellhousing/convertor housing the other fellow
mentioned. AS far as i've heard you can bolt a newer
engine crankshaft to the older flexplate..BUT cannot
bolt the older crank to a NEWER flexplate. older one
as smaller center hole. Hope this helps,Joe

Nearly no AMCs! There's often an eagle or concord, not this week.
One 65 ambo, 232, auto, drum, sheet metal is nearly perfect,
bad paint, hardly door dings. Slight rust in corners of doors
(typical, silt sifts into skin). Grille fair, interior poor, all
glass good, bumpers straight but pits, stainless trim perfect.
Engine partly disassembled.
One 64 classic, poor condition. Sheet metal OK drivers side,
196 OHV, auto, engine trash. Interior junk. Glass good.

IIRC the refrigerant used with the York pump doesn't need lubricant like other
pumps (Sanden) 'cause it has it's own oil supply.

Save the Ambos taillights if they are good! those and the front fender eyebrows [the bowed piece beside the headlights on the front.]
Ebay'em if nothing else, they usually bring fair money and they are one year only items. I wish the front bumper was nice, Oh well, I'm not fit enough to work on anything much right now. Maybe in a few more months things will loosen up, right now it is slow going! I could still use a passenger side front floor, but those are hard to get out and I've given up on getting one and will make my own at some point!
