[AMC-List] Latest Project Billet Aluminum Windshield Washer Tank

Progress has been slow on the tank project, but at least I am inside out
of the horrible heat and humidity in the A/C working on it. I started
with a billet radiator over flow tank. I modified the filler cap neck
ramps so the cap would open easily without having to push down with
excessive force to clear the locks. I also removed the overflow gasket
from the cap so the tank is now vented. I am also in the process of
removing 1/32" of material from the top of the billet cap to remove the
mfg's machined in logo. In order to get the socket in through the filler
neck to install the nut for the pump I had to grind the inside of the
filler neck for clearance. There was plenty of material but not where it
was welded to the tank. The neck separated from the tank. I used JB Weld
and re-installed the neck. I roughed up the mating surfaces and now that
it is dry it is like it was welded on again. Love that JB Weld. Next I
have to open up the hole in the bottom of the tank so the pump will fit.
Aluminum is a pain to work with as it filles up your grinding stones and
rotary files surfaces. I have to make a trip to Sears this morning for
some more supplies for my Dremil. Once all the mods to the tank and cap
are done I will have to polish it out. It may seem like an excessive
amount or work but that old crappy looking plastic tank looked horrible
next to the polished billet radiator over flow tank. It also wasent
cheap either as it was 146$ for the tank including shipping from Jeggs.
