[AMC-List] Them's the brakes?

  I have a 1982 Spirit 6cyl, 5 speed, the brake pedal sits out to far, 
further out than the cluth pedal, and a further than normal from the 
accelerator. I noted a 2nd hole lower in the pedal from where the brake 
pushrod connects to it. Will changing to the lower hole, move the pedal 
in? will the brakes still function and not jam up? or is there 
adjustment on the end of the pushrod where in fits into the master cyl. 
The car has manual front disk brakes.
 Want to get this fixed as it its kind of a saftey issue as my knee will 
hit the steering wheel if i not careful when braking. Thanks
