Hello,

My name is Jon Zaremba. I'm new to this list. I live in Victorville, CA
(halfway between L.A. and Vegas). For as long as i can remember, i've
wanted an AMC Eagle Wagon. I haven't had the time, space, or cash to afford
a second vehicle until now...so my search has begun.

I would prefer an '85 the most, but an earlier one would be fine too if it
looks and drives pretty good. I expect to get my fingernails dirty with
this car and am not looking for a perfect specimen, but would want it to be
in descent driving condition. I have never worked on one of these cars
before, so i don't want to get in over my head. I want to enjoy it right
away.

I've searched around online and posted a few "wanted" adds here and there.
Hopefully something will turn up. If you happen to know of one for sale in
the Southwest US, please let me know.

I'm glad to be a member of this list and look forward to contributing
someday.

Thanks in Advance,
Jon Zaremba

I understand that, what I was getting at is if the turbo was connected
to an air compressor instead of an engine it would still spin and
create boost. But I see your point -- the heat in this case expands air
faster than a cool air stream would, so efficiency increases some.

could well be! according to napa, eagles and '80s 3x4 mj/xj/yj jeeps
used the same calipers and 11" rotors. early 2wd xj used them on a
separate hub, but '86-'94 switched to a 1-piece rotor running on sets
6 & 2... and btw 2wd only contunued to use the '80s calipers up to
'93.

going back a little farther, midsize mopars like the monaco and light
trucks had a 5 x 4 1/2" 11 3/4" rotor; '73-'80 ran on the same #17
inner and #16 outer as the '74-8 amc 'big bendix' setup, but '81-4
used a different #11 inner - same rotor. hat depth -looks-
comparable...

So I'm pulling parts off this 85 Eagle wagon; fully
equiped including rear window wash/wipe, leather, four
speaker, etc. I am not sure what was standard on them
but the build sheet shows a whole lot of add-ons.
I want the flappers as there are four good ones and I
pull the door panels (nice shape, red leather). There
are a set of Boston Accoustics speakers in there! Damn
skippy I grabbed them. I look in the rear and there
are a matching st along with the factory bracket
set-up. Curiosity got the best of me and I started
following the wires, which lead to a big ol' amp under
the seat!
Did I mention a serious tow receiver and a custom
fabbed 3-row radiator with an additional tranny
cooler, not the cheapo kind sold at Pep Boys but a
really nice brand. This guy must have done some
big-time towing.
Along with the owners manual was a card identifying
the guy as a U-Haul district manager.
Anyways, I am keeping the power brake booster,
radiator and cooler, as a few other trim pieces.
Anyone need anything. The yard owner doesn't keep AMCs
around, but I was able to convince him to let me pull
parts off this one......Russ

I mentioned the torque tube set up on the Classic as I
assumed the poster was getting a non-AMC rear for the
discs. Chances are the 62 Classic springs won't line
up to the donor rear, so they will have to contend
with that. Also they will have to hook up some sort of
torque link or control arm, the 4-link aftermarket
set-up looks promising. If you go the Fomoco route you
might consider a Mustang II front end. You can use the
Fomoco brakes and upgrade to the purty 13" colored
rotors out there, put some gangster 17's on and you
are profiling.......russ

Yes, but. In the air compressor example, there would be no "recovery" of
lost energy; you'get get out only what you put in (electric motor, etc).
i\In the turbo it's recovering the heat energy. The turbo efficiency
will drop with distance from the combustion chamber, no way around that.
If the temp. is lower the turbo will pump less. No way around that. This
is why turbos are more efficient (net energy consumed/produced) than a
belt-driven supercharger (though that might be more fun to drive :-)

If you could measure pressure and velocity at specific spots along the
exhaust system, you would see high temp/pressure close to the engine,
and less so as you get to the tailpipe. Clearly, contained by a metal
pipe, there's the same amount of gases at point A, B, C, ... all the way
down.

The pressure is dropping because the heat is exiting the gases by
radiating off the pipe.

(There's turbulence and other things going on, the gases swirling
chaotically down the length of pipe, eg. the source of exhaust
restriction and why you want a large one etc.)

If you insulated the pipe from the manifold down to the rear/under
mounted turbo, you'd get more power out of it.

Looking for a ""tailgate"" for a 1960 Six or Rebel wagon. Have a 1963
American 330 2dr sedan to sell or trade. The American is an L-head six that
does run but smokes, good auto trans, some repairable rust and a rough
interior. It is green on green on green. No set price. Can arrange to send
