no, that started in '67, not by accident at the same time 4-way
flashers became law.  the earlier switch is a ford part; i'm told the
mustang folk repro it.  i was able to get replacement ts cams from my
local carquest, ten years ago when i drove a '66.  i needed them more
than once; the older switch isn't nearly as robust as the saginaw one.

Actually, the GM style switch that everyone is familiar with (the one with the canceling doo-hickey that fits all the way around the steering shaft) started in 1968 and not all 1968's have them. All 1967's and some 1968's use a type that looks like the older style but it has a couple of wires going to it. Chrysler used a similar setup in the 60's but I'm not sure if it's the same (or at least close enough to work). BTW, there are also two canceling cams for 1968 -- one for each style switch.
