Re: Steering turn signal pawls for '65 Rambler wagon - easy/hard to find?

" Got a lady in northen Virginia who has a '65 Rambler
" wagon ( don't know which model ), which she says needs
" "turn signals", which I assume is the plastic pawl
" pieces which break. is this the same GM plastic type
" as later ones, or an earlier model that is AMC?

no, that started in '67, not by accident at the same time 4-way
flashers became law. the earlier switch is a ford part; i'm told the
mustang folk repro it. i was able to get replacement ts cams from my
local carquest, ten years ago when i drove a '66. i needed them more
than once; the older switch isn't nearly as robust as the saginaw one.

" She also wants to convert to discs, is this a simple
" "donor-car" bolt on, with spindles, or more involved?

it takes more than just the spindles - it would be smart to grab the
master cylinder and proportioning valve as well - but yes it's a bolt
on. if she's running radials she should also grab the wheels; radials
are happiest on wider wheels than the original bias-ply tires, and all
the ones i've run across still take the little dog-dish rambler
hubcaps.
