High Stall cont'd

Hey Joe, I just took a torque converter out of a
1981 Eagle with a258 that had a neon pink tag on it
that said "high stall". No idea if it's original, but
on sight alone I would think this car was never
apart(junkyard). That converter, off an a998, had
slots that were too wide for the drive ears on the '76
a904. So I lost my nerve and bought a new one(old one
leaking).

Well I'm gonna try to use that converter and probably
the 904 (may be 998) tranny back in the Gremlin
instead of the tranny which is coming out of the
Hornet. I found the data in the 76 TSM similar to
what Ken Ames sent (thanks Ken) and I gotta think
there's more to this "high stall" issue than just the
torque produced by the various engines. I know that
for a given convertor design an engine with more
torque will produce a higher stall but why would AMC
(or Chrysler) put those little "high stall" tags on a
convertor if it doesn't mean anything?

I think I'll explore some of the Mopar mailing lists
and see what I can turn up.

Regards,
Joe Fulton
(finally making progress on some project cars)
